Position Title: Executive Director of Payroll
Salary Range: Not specified.
Location: Nashville Tennessee

Our client is an enterprise sized organization that is global. They are seeking someone to oversee all payroll operations for their organization in the United States. In this role you will be overseeing a team of internal employees and managing vendor relationships. Candidates must have strategic and tactical experience running payroll operations for an organization that has at least 10,000 employees. Experience dealing with regulations and guidelines in a complex organization is strongly preferred.


A tactically and strategically strong leader able to manage, motivate and develop staff while directing team activities to achieve performance targets and operational excellence.

  • Set strategy, direct payroll initiatives and effectively communicate change to management and the Field
  • Effectively manage third party vendor relationships and ensure compliance with agreed upon SLAs
  • Ensure internal and external audits are resolved on a timely basis and mitigating procedural controls are implemented as required
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships within the wider community while ensuring strict adherence to company accounting standards
  • Navigate the organization to ensure appropriate stakeholders are engaged and considered in key decisions
  • Ensure key procedural control are adhered to and periodically revisited


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance
  • Strong understanding of payroll and managing in a Comprehensive Outsourced Payroll Model
  • Minimum 7 years' payroll management experience in a company paying in excess of 10,000 employees
  • In depth knowledge of US Payroll and related federal, state and local laws, as well as, accounting regulations and concepts
  • Managed oversight of payroll system and/or vendor conversions
  • Knowledge of managing payrolls and teams domiciled outside the US as well as International Assignee rules
  • Strong strategic vision as well as analytical, problem-solving and synthesizing skills
  • Knowledge of financial service industry operating environments and finance operations, preferred
