Position Title: Senior Data Engineer

Description:

Our client is rapidly growing and is seeking a Senior Data Engineer.  In this role, you will work with a great data team solving important problems.  You will lead efforts to integrate, validate, enrich, and aggregate healthcare data for use by analysts and data scientists. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain processes to acquire, validate, and enrich data from various sources
  • Lead data engineering initiatives; actively mentor others and assign work as needed
  • Manage ongoing processes to acquire data and participate as an individual contributor
  • Work with Data Engineering to build and maintain efficient processes for loading acquired data into our relational, dimensional, and no-SQL databases
  • Implement data lake architecture best practices to ensure a standardized and scalable way that our client stores and processes data
  • Serve as expert in data acquisition, work with other teams to identify new sources of data, and estimate feasibility of acquiring specific data sources
  • Candidates would preferably have experience working with healthcare data (This is not a must have.)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years of work experience in a highly technical and hands-on data engineering role
  • Must be strong with Microsoft SQL and Python
  • Must have experience moving very large amounts of data to the cloud (This could be AWS, Azure or Google Cloud)
  • Experience moving data into and out of a data lake
  • Strong organizational skills and time management capacity to balance multiple projects with limited supervision
  • Ability to build and re-evaluate a process from the ground up
  • Strong investigative skills with ability to search beyond the initial results
  • Have a fanatical attention to detail, with overwhelming desire to test and double-check your own results
  • Comfortable working with messy data and ambiguous results
  • Education (Bachelor’s degree or greater, or equivalent practical experience) in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, engineering, or computer science
  • Bash and PowerShell for command-line scripting and process automation
  • SQL Server for storing master relational database containing billions of rows of healthcare data
  • Experience with Python and Jupyter Notebooks for exploratory data analysis, machine learning, and process automation

ADDITIONAL:

Currently our client is letting its employees work remotely during the pandemic.  After it ends they will want this person in Nashville, TN.  You will be responsible for working onsite two days a week.  This is a fast-paced team environment that is casual.
